Progress!
Well I have officially burned through another Moleskin sketchbook. And as i was going to post the last page in my latest book i found my first moleskin and thought you might want to see the progress I have made.
The top image is the first page in my first book when i decided to start taking location sketching seriously and realized what it had to offer. This was a little shy of a year ago when i started. The bottom image is literally the last page in my latest sketchbook which I just finished last week.
I can see a world of difference. In the beginning it was all about speed and making the drawing look like the person. Now Im more focused on volume, tone, color and trying to push my designs. Not only has it helped my technical and fundamental drawing but i have increased in speed and it really gives you a chance to explore and be creative.
So if you haven't tried it, I would highly recommend it. And if any of you ever want to get together and sketch let me know. I'm always down!
Off to the stress and fear of starting a new sketchbook! This one is blue by the way and not a moleskin so it might suck.

Hey Justin!
Neat post! I like that you put up where you were and where you are now. It's really inspiring to see the progress! I especially love the guy with the goggles. He was real? You saw him somewhere?? Awesome :)

Hey Justin! Dude you are rocking. Your art has really stepped up another notch since you been doing the Moley. Were you using the sketchbook Moleskine or the Notebook version. I would love to hook up with you one day to do some location sketching. Most of the time it's just me, myself and I but would be cool to sketch with a fellow artist as well. Let me know what future opening you might have and I'll see if I'm free so we can possible set something up.
Can TOTALLY see progress. Nice job and keep it up! I'm down for sketch meetups too.
it is always such a good feeling to finish a sketchbook. i haven't drawn in mine for awhile and i miss that feeling of finishing one and going into a fresh new one.
these sketches are great, i love that guy in the yellow, soooo cool!
That's fantastic! The evolution in confidence and execution is an example to all of us!!
Awesome character drawings!
Great stuff. It's inspired me to have ago. Thought about doing it the past but never got into gear. Your stuff has made me think again.
WOW!! Its great to see how much you have evolved in a year!!! You can really see your confidence shine thru in your fluid line work. Your first sketches look a little frigid and your lines a little messy.... where now your huge improvement proves just how far you have come. You have really pushed your character design and have evolved with a solid understanding of minimal mark making and line quality. Your even using colour!!
I love it!!! It will be interesting to see just how much you improve in another years time!!!
Great work!!
Keep it up!!
I'll make sure to swing by again soon!!
Best wishes and kindest regards,
TC.x
